Features
What Jaarrekening.io does, part by part, for companies registered in the Netherlands: Dutch annual accounts under Title 9, Book 2 of the Dutch Civil Code, filing with the KVK and bookkeeping on the same figures. Tax and payroll are coming soon.
Annual accounts with AI: from trial balance to review
Upload your trial balance, check the proposed mapping of your accounts and complete the annual accounts data. Jaarrekening.io links the balance sheet and profit and loss account with AI drafts for the notes and, where required, the management report. You review the figures, accounting policies and completeness.
- 1. Prepare the data. Gather a reconciled trial balance, comparative figures and support for the annual accounts line items. Start with Excel, CSV or an XAF audit file from your existing bookkeeping.
- 2. Check the mapping. The AI proposes Dutch annual accounts line items for your accounts. Check the classification and signs. Fixed calculation rules check the totals and that assets and liabilities balance.
- 3. Complete the data. Answer the questions about your entity and add missing facts. The AI creates editable draft texts. You review the valuation, the notes and the requirements that apply.
- 4. Review and export. Work through the check points and have the annual report reviewed and adopted. Export the right version. Filing with the KVK is a separate step for which completeness and file format must be checked.
You pay per set of annual accounts; the price depends on the size class (pricing). How much time you need depends mainly on the quality of your records and the review of the content.
All features, by pillar
The annual accounts along the steps of a financial year, plus bookkeeping, tax and payroll, on one set of figures, without double entry. Tax and payroll are coming soon.
Importing figures
- Trial balance import: XAF audit file 3.2, Excel and CSV with automatic column recognition, and a PDF trial balance read with AI. Debit must equal credit before you can continue.
- RGS mapping with AI: RGS codes lead deterministically to the Book 2 DCC line item; without RGS the AI makes a proposal with reasons per account. Every mapping can be overridden manually.
- Company lookup: search for the company by name or KVK number; name, address and legal form are filled in as a proposal and you check them. A direct link with the Business Register is in preparation.
Preparing the annual accounts
- Size class determination: the two-out-of-three test over two consecutive years, with the thresholds for financial years from 1 January 2024 and an indication of the audit requirement (art. 2:393 DCC).
- Balance sheet & P&L: following the Dutch decree on annual accounts formats (Besluit modellen jaarrekening), with classification by nature or by function, comparative figures (art. 2:363(5) DCC) and manual adjustments with a recorded reason.
- Notes generator: a questionnaire per size class leads to editable AI drafts for accounting policies, movement schedules and mandatory disclosures, with amounts linked to the balance sheet and P&L.
- Management report generator: business review, risks and outlook as an editable draft (art. 2:391 DCC), only when your size class requires a management report.
Checking & collaborating
- AI review & checks: reconciliation, completeness and numerical consistency between balance sheet, P&L and notes, with findings per part.
- Team management & workspaces: roles, invitations, approval per section and an audit trail; an adopted financial year is locked.
Exporting & filing
- PDF, Word & Excel export: the full annual accounts as PDF, or editable in Word and Excel; the preparation version and the filing version separately.
- Filing with the KVK: a publication version limited to what the law requires per size class, with deadline monitoring. Preparation for the KVK; nothing is sent from the tool.
Bookkeeping
- Bookkeeping & general ledger: journal, memorial journal, recurring entries and ledger cards on a chart of accounts with an RGS code and Book 2 DCC line item per account.
- Bank, invoices & open items: bank files in CSV, CAMT or MT940, sales invoices with PDF and UBL, reminders and payment batches.
- From bookkeeping to annual accounts: the trial balance goes to the financial year of the annual accounts without an export; you can switch over with balances and open items from XAF or CSV.
- VAT return & statements: VAT return per period from the bookkeeping, with supplementary return (suppletie) and EC Sales List (opgaaf ICP), prepared as an SBR message to download.
Tax
Coming soon.
- Corporate income tax: from commercial to taxable profit, the CIT calculation and the tax charge and deferred taxes for the annual accounts.
- Deadlines & tax files: a tax calendar per entity, assessments and objections, and DGA topics such as customary salary (gebruikelijk loon) and excessive borrowing (excessief lenen).
The VAT parts belong to Bookkeeping and are available; the rest of Tax follows soon. Which topics you see depends on legal form and tax profile. Returns are prepared; you file them via Digipoort with your tax return software or an intermediary, or in Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk.
Payroll
Coming soon.
- Payroll run & payslips: gross salary, payroll taxes and contributions per period; payslips per employee as PDF, leave and sickness, and annual statements per employee.
- Payroll journal entry & payroll tax return: the final payroll run is posted in the bookkeeping; for the payroll tax return you see the amounts per period.
You file the payroll tax return via your payroll or tax return software or an intermediary (Digipoort); that link is not yet part of Jaarrekening.io.
Filing with the KVK, prepared
Jaarrekening.io compiles the publication version your size class has to make public and calculates the deadlines per financial year: preparation within five months (extension of at most five months), filing within eight days of adoption and no later than twelve months after the end of the financial year (arts. 2:210 and 2:394 DCC).
The software sends nothing to the KVK. You file yourself or through your accountant and then record the receipt reference in the file. For supported financial years the app can create an XBRL file for every size class: a validation candidate that you have checked before use with SBR software or by your accountant. For a large entity your accountant files the file with SBR software, together with the auditor's report.
| Size class | Publication version for the KVK | XBRL |
|---|---|---|
| Micro | Balance sheet | validation candidate |
| Small | Balance sheet, Notes | validation candidate |
| Medium-sized | Balance sheet, Profit and loss account, Notes, Management report, Auditor's report | validation candidate |
| Large | Balance sheet, Profit and loss account, Notes, Management report, Auditor's report | validation candidate; your accountant files it with SBR software |
Which annual accounts do you have to prepare?
Your reporting regime depends on the balance sheet total, net turnover and average number of employees. What counts is whether the entity meets at least two of the three criteria on two consecutive balance sheet dates (arts. 2:395a to 2:397 DCC).
| Size class | Balance sheet total | Net turnover | Avg. employees | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | ≤ € 450.000 | ≤ € 900.000 | < 10 | art. 2:395a DCC |
| Small | ≤ € 7,5 million | ≤ € 15 million | < 50 | art. 2:396 DCC |
| Medium-sized | ≤ € 25 million | ≤ € 50 million | < 250 | art. 2:397 DCC |
| Large | > € 25 million | > € 50 million | ≥ 250 | Title 9 Book 2 DCC in full |
After you import your trial balance, the software determines which regime applies, including the effect of a transition year. Parts you do not have to prepare under Book 2 DCC are omitted, for example the management report for a small entity. For a medium-sized or large entity the software flags the mandatory audit (art. 2:393 DCC).
Important note: using the software assumes basic knowledge of the Dutch reporting rules. The software does not replace reporting expertise, tax or legal advice or an audit. The user remains responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the content; the final review and approval lie with the board or the accountant.
Importing figures without retyping them
Every Dutch bookkeeping package exports an audit file or a column trial balance (kolommenbalans). Jaarrekening.io imports it, validates the balances and converts them, where RGS codes are included, deterministically to the line items of Title 9 Book 2 DCC.
- File import (available): XAF audit file 3.2, a column trial balance in Excel or CSV, or a PDF of a trial balance or prior-year annual accounts read with AI.
- Direct API link (in preparation): the links with Moneybird, Yuki, Exact Online, Twinfield, e-Boekhouden.nl, SnelStart, AFAS and Visma have been built; each vendor still has to approve such a link before we can switch it on. Until then the same package works via the XAF export.
- Bank, payments and registers (available): bank statements in CAMT.053, MT940 or CSV, SEPA payment files, payout reports from Mollie, Stripe and PayPal, e-invoices (UBL), VAT number check via VIES and address from postcode.
- In preparation: REST API and webhooks (also for Zapier, Make, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Power BI and Excel), a calendar subscription for tax return deadlines, Mollie payment links, data from the Business Register, bank link (PSD2) via Ponto, purchase invoices by e-mail and filing via Digipoort.
Packages that can export an XAF audit file or column trial balance include Exact Online, Twinfield, AFAS Profit, Yuki, Moneybird, e-Boekhouden.nl, SnelStart, Visma eAccounting, Unit4, Reeleezee, MUIS Software and King Business. If your package is not listed, an export to Excel or CSV almost always suffices. Brand names belong to their owners; mentioning them does not imply a partnership.
How do you prepare your annual accounts? Four approaches side by side.
Excel and Word, the traditional accounting firm, the reporting module of your bookkeeping package or specialist reporting software, each with its own strengths. The comparison on this page sets Jaarrekening.io alongside them: AI drafts from your own figures, Book 2 DCC checks and a publication version for filing in one workflow.
For teams accountable for annual accounts
From the DGA to the finance team and the external firm: everyone works on the same figures.
- DGAs and business owners: more control over mandatory parts, the underlying figures and filing, without losing the process in separate files.
- Accounting and bookkeeping firms: standardise client annual accounts, review drafts instead of rebuilding them and record questions directly at the relevant part.
- CFOs and controllers: manage the annual accounts process internally, with roles, approvals and dynamically linked figures.
Careful processing of financial data
The primary database is in the EU and connections are encrypted. For selected AI features we process only the necessary data via the commercial Anthropic API; by default that API does not use data for model training. According to the privacy statement, AI processing may take place outside the EU. All safeguards are on Security and privacy.
