Preparing Dutch annual accounts from Unit4 Multivers
The accounting package Unit4 Multivers now belongs to Exact. You create the audit file via Extra | Create audit file for tax audit, with XML export ticked.
The short answer
Unit4 Multivers has moved to Exact: multivers.nl redirects to Exact and the online version is called Exact Multivers Online. In Multivers Accounting you create an audit file via Extra | Create audit file for tax audit. Tick XML export for an XAF file in version 3.2, choose the category scheme for RGS and include the Openingbalance. Different menus apply for Unit4 ERP.

Which Unit4 do you use?
Two kinds of software hid under the name Unit4. For the export it matters which one you have.
| Product | What we established on 6 October 2026 | Where to find help |
|---|---|---|
| Multivers (Accounting, Online) | multivers.nl redirects to Exact's bookkeeping page; the login page is called ‘Exact Multivers Online’ and carries the name Exact B.V. | support.exact.com, according to the Multivers Online login page |
| Unit4 ERP and Unit4 Financials | Unit4's website did not allow automated consultation; we could not read help pages there | Your application manager or Unit4's documentation |
| Unit4 Audition | Appears in the documentation of Twinfield and Nmbrs Accounting as a destination of an export | The supplier of your reporting software |
The rest of this page is about Multivers, because a manual from the supplier is publicly available for it. The general check whether the balances tie in with the annual accounts also applies to Unit4 ERP. The menu paths and the audit file options below have only been verified for Multivers.
What Multivers itself offers for the annual accounts
The part of the manual we consulted deals with administration management: back-ups, year transition and the audit file. A component for annual accounts under Title 9 Book 2 DCC is not in it, and we could not verify one for Multivers elsewhere. Exact has its own annual accounts product for firms; what it does is explained on the page about Exact Online. For Multivers, assume that the annual accounts are produced at your firm or in separate software.
Creating an audit file in Multivers Accounting
- Start the menu Extra | Create audit file for tax audit.
- Specify the folder where the file should go.
- Tick XML export. Without that tick Multivers makes an ASCII file with the extension .adf.
- Do not select an older version: according to the manual you then make ‘an Audit file 3.2 file’.
- Choose the category scheme if you use RGS, and choose to export the Openingbalance.
- Select the financial year and, if needed, the periods, and start the creation.
The manual we found is from 2021 and describes version 12. Screens may differ in your version. A menu path for a trial balance in Excel is not in this part; look for it in the other parts of the manual or ask Exact. The trial balance guide describes what the file must contain.
RGS in Multivers
Multivers carries RGS along via a category scheme. In the audit file screen you choose ‘the right category scheme’; by default the choice is ‘Nvt’, not applicable. According to the manual you use that setting if you do make version 3.2 but do not work with RGS. If your accounts are linked to the scheme, the code is in the file and the classification in the annual accounts follows largely from it. If not, you assign the accounts yourself; see RGS mapping.
Checks before exporting from Multivers
- Opening balance included. Without the option Openingbalance the file contains only the transactions of the year.
- Periods. Do not restrict the period selection; the annual accounts require the whole financial year.
- One file per year. Rename after every export, otherwise the next year overwrites the previous one.
- Retention. Keep the audit files for seven years art. 2:10(3) DCC; that is extra important if you switch packages.
Worked example: accounts without transactions disappear
A BV has € 18.000 share capital and € 150.000 share premium. Nothing is posted on those two accounts in 2025. If you export without opening balance, they do not appear in the file as a balance: equity seems € 168.000 lower. The transactions themselves are in balance, so the file balances and nobody gets an error message. Only comparison with the balance sheet from Multivers shows the gap.
From Unit4 export to annual accounts
After the export follow the statutory steps: classify, include comparative figures art. 2:363(5) DCC, explain in the notes, adopt and file art. 2:394(1) DCC.
| Size class | What is added | Point of attention |
|---|---|---|
| Micro and small | No audit requirement; an abridged version for the KVK | Multivers: the audit file 3.2 with opening balance is the source for the figures |
| Medium-sized | Management report and audit by an accountant art. 2:393(1) DCC | The accountant also asks for the transactions; supply the full XAF file from Multivers |
| Large or a group | Full annual accounts, consolidated if necessary | With Unit4 ERP: agree with the application manager which reports give the positions per entity |
Multivers and Jaarrekening.io
Jaarrekening.io reads an XAF audit file in version 3.1 or 3.2, the format Multivers makes with XML export; the app does not read the .adf file. After reading it in, check the closing balances of the balance sheet accounts against the balance sheet in Multivers: the app reports it if it does not recognise an opening balance in the file. RGS codes from the file are used for the mapping. A trial balance from Multivers in Excel or CSV is also read in. A direct link with Multivers or Unit4 is in preparation and not yet released; read more at linking to your accounting package.
When the accountant takes over the file from Unit4
If your organisation uses Unit4 ERP and is subject to an audit, you prepare the file and the accountant does the audit. With Multivers and a small BV you can prepare the annual accounts yourself. If you are considering switching, first ask Exact about the plans for Multivers, and as an alternative for a simple administration look at the bookkeeping of Jaarrekening.io.

Frequently asked questions
Is Unit4 Multivers the same as Exact Multivers?
It is the same package under a different owner. The website multivers.nl redirects to Exact, the login page is called Exact Multivers Online and the 2021 manual carries the copyright of Exact MKB Software B.V.
Why is my audit file from last year gone?
Multivers gives the audit file the name of the database, without a year. If you save the new file in the same folder, the old one is overwritten. Rename or move every file after creating it.
What is the difference between .adf and .xaf in Multivers?
Without options Multivers makes an ASCII file (.adf). With the XML export tick it becomes an XML file with the extension .xaf; without a version choice that is, according to the manual, version 3.2. Annual accounts software generally expects the XAF file.
I use Unit4 ERP, not Multivers. What now?
The menus are different and depend on your set-up. Ask your application manager for a report with, per ledger account, the number, the description, the opening balance and the closing balance over the financial year, or for an audit file in XAF format.
