Platform modules
Alongside the annual accounts: bookkeeping, taxes and payroll in the menu, and add-ons for consolidation, VSME, capitalisation and cap table.
The short answer
Jaarrekening.io is built around one product: the annual accounts under Title 9 Book 2 DCC. Around it are modules that supply the figures or that use the annual accounts. Bookkeeping, taxes and payroll are in the menu by default. Consolidation, VSME, capitalisation of development costs and the cap table are built as add-ons, but are not yet in the menu.
This page says per module what it does, what it does not (yet) do and how the figures end up in the annual accounts. Every description has been checked in the software itself; where something is built but not yet in use, it says so.
All modules at a glance
| Module | What you do with it | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Bookkeeping | General ledger, bank, invoices and trial balance to the annual accounts | In the menu, subscription per entity |
| Invoices and e-invoicing (UBL) | Sales invoices, UBL export and reading in UBL purchase invoices | In the menu (part of Bookkeeping) |
| VAT return | Prepare rubrics, supplementary returns and ICP return from the entries | In the menu, with the Bookkeeping subscription |
| CIT return | Worksheets for corporate income tax, losses and deductions | Coming soon (Taxes module) |
| Payroll | Payroll run, payslips, payroll taxes and payroll journal entry | Coming soon (Payroll module) |
| Consolidation | Consolidated annual accounts from the group's locked figures | Add-on, not yet in the menu |
| VSME sustainability report | Voluntary sustainability report under VSME, with CO2 calculation aid | Add-on (beta), not yet in the menu |
| Capitalisation of development costs | Development projects, capitalisation criteria and statutory reserve | Add-on, not yet in the menu |
| Cap table and share register | Shareholders, rounds, options and dilution | Add-on, not yet in the menu |
An overview of all functions of the annual accounts themselves is on the features page; the prices of the annual accounts and of the add-ons are on the pricing page.
How the modules connect to the annual accounts
- Bookkeeping: at the end of the financial year you take the trial balance directly into the annual accounts. Accounts from the standard chart get their RGS code and BW 2 line item with them; that is possible in a paid financial year.
- Payroll: a final payroll run books the payroll journal entry in the bookkeeping. That way wages, social security charges and pension costs reach the profit and loss account through the takeover.
- Taxes (VAT and CIT): the worksheets take their figures from the entries, the payroll runs and the asset register. VAT is already in the bookkeeping via the VAT codes. A CIT worksheet books nothing: you book the CIT charge and the corporate income tax payable yourself after checking, and only then do they go with the trial balance to the annual accounts.
- Consolidation: reads the locked annual accounts figures of each group member and makes consolidated annual accounts from them, without writing anything back.
- VSME: takes balance sheet total and net turnover from the recorded annual accounts, so that the sustainability report rests on the same figures.
- Capitalisation and cap table: stand apart from the annual accounts. You process the outcome yourself, such as the journal entry and the statutory reserve, or the issued capital.
If you keep the bookkeeping in another package, the annual accounts work just as well: you read in an XAF audit file or a trial balance in Excel or CSV. Direct links per package are in preparation and not yet released. See from your bookkeeping package.
In the menu or add-on: what the difference is
Bookkeeping, taxes and payroll appear in the menu as soon as you open an entity. Bookkeeping is a subscription per entity per month, from € 125 excl. VAT, with the periodic VAT returns included; taxes and payroll are shown greyed out, with the label Coming soon. The annual accounts are paid for separately, once per financial year and by size class, from € 250 excl. VAT for a micro entity; the first set of annual accounts in your account is free.
Add-ons are a subscription per workspace. They are built, but are currently not in the menu: the product focus is on the annual accounts and the three modules around them. If you want to use an add-on, please contact us or e-mail info@jaarrekening.io. You create a new account yourself via Start for free.
What the platform deliberately does not do
- No sending of tax returns. VAT return, ICP return and supplementary returns are prepared and made ready as an SBR message to download; you work out corporate income tax and income tax in worksheets. You submit via Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk, your filing software or an intermediary.
- No payroll tax return. The payroll module shows the amounts per period; you submit the return message outside the app.
- Nothing to the KVK. You file yourself or via your accountant. For every size class the app produces an XBRL file as a validation candidate, which you have checked with SBR software or by your accountant before use; the accountant submits that of a large entity with SBR software. See SBR and XBRL.
- No sending via Peppol and no active bank link via PSD2 yet; UBL files and bank statements work as a file.
- No judgement on your behalf. The AI writes drafts, the amounts come from fixed calculation rules and the board remains responsible. Medium-sized and large entities also need an audit by an accountant.
Modules that are not yet available
Customer relationship management (CRM)
Contacts, contact persons, sales opportunities, activities and quotes.
Contract management
Contracts and notice periods, with a help overview of off-balance-sheet commitments (art. 2:381 DCC) that you take over into the notes yourself.
Treasury & liquidity
Loans with repayment schedules, recurring cash flows and a liquidity forecast.
Internal control
Processes, risks, control measures and testing under COSO.
Financial planning
Budgets, forecasts and scenarios on the profit and loss account line items.
These five modules are built, but cannot yet be purchased. Two parts of them do already exist in the bookkeeping: a budget per account against the actuals and a thirteen-week liquidity forecast.
A CSRD module exists too, but it follows the ESRS of 2023. Since the Omnibus directive (Directive (EU) 2026/470) almost every SME falls outside the CSRD; the logical route is then a VSME report. An extensive key ratio analysis with AI interpretation is an add-on; the most important key ratios are already in the bookkeeping reporting, and you can also calculate them yourself. For bookkeeping and accounting firms there are also client management and a client portal.

Capitalisation of development costs to substantiate the choice for capitalisation and the statutory reserve.
Supplier with sustainability questions
VSME report to answer questions from banks and customers in one document.
Start-up with investors
Cap table to work through rounds and dilution, alongside the statutory shareholder register.
Invoices to the government
E-invoicing in UBL to create a UBL file that you send through your own channel.
Frequently asked questions
Which modules does Jaarrekening.io have alongside the annual accounts?
Bookkeeping (with invoices, e-invoicing, bank link and VAT return) is in the menu. Taxes (CIT and income tax) and payroll are in there too, but are coming soon. Consolidation, VSME, capitalisation of development costs and a cap table are built as add-ons, but are not yet in the menu.
Can I file tax returns with the Dutch Tax Administration through Jaarrekening.io?
No. The app prepares VAT, ICP return and supplementary returns as an SBR message to download, and works out corporate income tax and income tax in worksheets. You submit via Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk, your filing software or an intermediary.
Do I have to keep my bookkeeping in Jaarrekening.io to create annual accounts?
No. You can also read in an XAF audit file or a trial balance in Excel or CSV from your own package. If you do keep the bookkeeping in Jaarrekening.io, you take over the trial balance without an export.
Why are some modules not in the menu?
The product focus is on the annual accounts and the modules that feed them. The add-ons are built and can be taken per workspace, but are deliberately not yet in the menu. If you want to use one, you can get in touch.
What do the modules cost?
The first set of annual accounts in your account is free; after that you pay for it once per financial year by size class, from € 250 excl. VAT. Bookkeeping is a subscription per entity per month, from € 125 excl. VAT. Add-ons are a subscription per workspace; the amounts are on the pricing page.
