Nextens Jaarrekening alternative: what are the differences?

Nextens Jaarrekening suits firms that already do their tax returns in Nextens. Jaarrekening.io is meant for directors who prepare Dutch annual accounts themselves.

✓ First annual accounts free ✓ Micro to large entities ✓ Dutch GAAP: Title 9, Book 2 DCC ✓ Primary database in the EU

Updated: October 2026. Nextens Jaarrekening is software for firms that prepare annual accounts for ‘natural persons and micro/small’ (source: nextens.nl, product). It suits mainly firms that already do their tax returns in Nextens. A Nextens Jaarrekening alternative such as Jaarrekening.io is not a firm package, but a tool with which a director prepares the annual accounts of a BV, NV or cooperative themselves, with AI drafts for the texts.

What is Nextens Jaarrekening?

Nextens is a brand of LexisNexis Risk Solutions, part of RELX (source: nextens.nl, product). The website places Nextens Jaarrekening in the tax return software section. The switching page says: ‘We currently support micro and small entities’ (source: nextens.nl, switching).

There are three packages: Basis from € 72, Plus from € 80 and Pro from € 89 a month. ‘All prices exclusive of VAT’ (source: nextens.nl, product). Plus adds consolidation, a house style of your own, English translation and small, non-commercial foundations and associations. Pro adds a work programme and a compilation file (source: nextens.nl, product).

On filing, Nextens writes: ‘At the moment KVK filing runs via the tax return. So you can file, but not yet directly from the annual accounts’ (source: nextens.nl, switching). For SBR the product page says: ‘Submit annual figures digitally, with checks and validations before sending (free with Jaarrekening in 2026)’ (source: nextens.nl, product).

Who Nextens Jaarrekening is meant for

The target group is the tax and administrative firm. The Pro package is described as ‘fully integrated, from tax return to reporting, from foundation to BV’ (source: nextens.nl, product). That is where the strength lies: annual accounts and tax returns in one environment.

For import, Nextens names Excel, six links and an RGS bridge statement (source: nextens.nl, product). On the XAF audit file the product page is not unambiguous: the feature list names XAF, the frequently asked questions say that import is not yet possible. Ask if you want to work with XAF (source: nextens.nl, product).

How Jaarrekening.io works differently from Nextens Jaarrekening

Nextens works with a monthly subscription per firm and many clients at once. Jaarrekening.io charges per set of annual accounts, once per financial year, and is set up for the director or controller of the entity itself.

In substance the difference lies in the size classes and the writing work. Jaarrekening.io prepares the annual accounts from micro to large and writes drafts for the notes and, where required, the management report. Nextens currently supports micro and small (source: nextens.nl, switching) and works with ‘reports via templates’ (source: nextens.nl, product).

Filing also differs. Nextens files with the KVK via the tax return module, not yet directly from the annual accounts (source: nextens.nl, switching). Jaarrekening.io sends nothing to the KVK. For micro and small you can enter the data yourself in the KVK portal Zelf Deponeren. The XBRL file of a large entity cannot go through that portal: an intermediary, usually the accountant, submits it with SBR software.

When Nextens Jaarrekening is the better choice

  • You are a firm that makes many annual accounts for sole proprietorships and vof's; ‘Jaarrekening natuurlijke personen’ is included in Basis (source: nextens.nl, product).
  • Your firm already does the income tax and CIT returns in Nextens and wants annual accounts and tax return in one environment.
  • As a firm you make many annual accounts per year. Then calculate both models: Nextens Basis from € 72 a month is from € 864 a year, excl. VAT (source: nextens.nl, product); Jaarrekening.io charges per set of annual accounts.
  • You want a work programme and compilation file (Pro) (source: nextens.nl, product).

When Jaarrekening.io can be an alternative to Nextens Jaarrekening

  • You are a director and want to prepare the annual accounts yourself, without a firm subscription.
  • Your entity is medium-sized or large and you prepare the file that your accountant audits.
  • You want the notes written as a draft from your own figures, instead of filling in a template.

Combine instead of choose

For micro and small the weighing-up is often simple: which parts must you file, and who makes them? You read that per class in filing micro and filing small. A firm that uses Nextens and a client who works in Jaarrekening.io themselves exchange a trial balance most easily.

Comparing further

Besides Nextens Jaarrekening there are more routes to annual accounts, from the free KVK portal to an online bookkeeping service. You find them per category in the buyer's guide best annual accounts software.
